Bourjo Press

The first title from Bourjo Press - The Cellarman - is available now as an ebook. A print edition will be available soon.

John wants to be an artist but instead he spends most of his time avoiding student Molly who adores him and pining for the goth girl Marianne who he first saw in a graveyard. Earning a meagre living at the Black Dragon pub in Hayds as a bar and cellarman, he finally meets his muse. But appearances can be deceptive. She is a young mother escaping from an unhappy marriage. And he is not sure if art is enough anymore.

New name same old look

If you are wondering where this blog went or were looking for that cool post on Alaíde Foppa, we took a break. But we are back now and all the good stuff is still here. There will be updates on my poetry coming up now and then (along with the usual nonsense).

Exact colour of snow comes out from Shearsman Books in January 2025.

If you want to get in touch with Bridget for any reasons, use the contacts or head to bridgetkhursheed.com

And as ever enjoy!

News from the west

I was really pleased to be nominated for the Wigtown Poetry Alastair Reid pamphlet prize in great company last month. And this past weekend I got over to the splendid bookshop filled Wigtown for Stephen Rutt's wonderful Saltmarsh library where this photo was taken.

You can learn more about the prize here and congratulations to Sarah Leavesley who won.

I was very excited to discover I was runner-up. Plans afoot of a way of sharing the sequence that would have been in the pamphlet in due course.

I also bought an H G Wells book on film - the joy of the second-hand book shop in a nutshell.

Doing a lot of writing

Isn't that the best way to be. There is plenty going on but nothing really shareable yet.

So here is another nice photo for September of my tidied up compost bins.

Creative retreats at Kalewater Cottage

I was lucky enough to go for the Kalewater Cottage open day and get a look round - it was lovely to also meet poets and friends including Samuel Tongue and Stewart Sanderson. Not to mention receiving a fine breakfast on arrival!

It is a spectacular space perfect for writing retreat in a splendid location with creature comforts, a beautiful garden and even a hillfort on your doorstep. Kalewater also will be hosting workshops and other creative interactions - so keep an eye on their Twitter or insta to see more of the cottage itself and to learn more:
